Waffle Weave Towels

A memory came up on Facebook today of some towels that I wove back in 2011. They are waffle weave and this reminded me how the fabric changes when it's washed. The first photo is of the towels on the loom and second one is of one of the towels after being washed. It's been a few years of washing and honestly they haven't changed in all that time. They look just as good as they did when I took them off the loom a few years ago.

It's funny how the light pink, which is so prominent on the loom becomes recessive in the towels.

What I love about England (2009)

I just found this in my 'drafts' folder. I don't think it was ever published.

I'm visiting England to see my daughter and her family at her lovely newly refinished home. England is very different from any part of California that I've been in. I'll list 10 things here that I find amazing:

1. Aga. This is like an oven but it stays on all the time. The two things on the top on the right are burners that are covered up by a large heavy lid. Three of the 4 doors on the right side are ovens. The left wside of this large aga is a traditional stove with 4 burners & two ovens that are turned on independently. This is very large stove stays hot all the time, it really fights the cold damp English weather.

2. Tube station escalators. Some of these escalators go up hundreds of feet. They are amazing to ride on. Notice the signs on the right. They say to stand on right. The left side is a passing lane for people in a hurry.

Dead Blog (almost but not quite)

It seems that I have let my blog go so long without posting, people probably think I'm dead. I'm not people! Still here, creating something every day, even if it's just creeping along at times. I usually have several things going at the same time. I am knitting and doing card weaving at the moment. I am creating a lovely little pebble weave band from Linda Hendricksons, 2 Hole Pebble Weave book.  I finished a kumihimo lanyard for CNCH last night while watching TV and really need to pick up my knitting again. I have also picked up an interest in tapestry weaving, which I haven't done much with up until now, except collect materials. I have signed up for a way day tapestry weaving class in Mendicino in late April 2017. We will stay near Mendicino the week before the class and see the area (again). It's a wonderful place with lots to enjoy and see. We are staying on a house on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. It's going to be wonderful, after a long wet winter here in San Jose, CA.  Then the next week, I will be at Asilomar for 3 days at CNCH taking a weaving class.
